Course Aims

This course aims to:

• Equip you with practical skills for effective volunteer management
• Explore the ethical aspects of deploying volunteers
• Examine volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged, minority, or marginalised groups
• Provide a solid understanding of health and safety legislation, and volunteer rights and responsibilities

• The ethics of volunteering and volunteer management
• Creating volunteering opportunities for individuals with disabilities
• Health and safety considerations for volunteers
• Risk management strategies
• Rights and responsibilities of volunteers and host organisations
• Crafting volunteer agreements and setting expectations
• Managing young volunteers and their unique needs
• Recruiting and rewarding volunteers
• Training and accreditation processes for volunteers
• Promoting volunteer work effectively
• Building and nurturing social networks of volunteers
• Handling challenging situations and managing change

Entry Requirements

• A Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
• A good standard of written English

Learning and Assessment

Throughout the course, you will be assessed using various methods, including:

• Written assignments
• Oral presentations
• Practical tasks

Detailed assessment criteria are provided in the course handbook. You'll also be assessed informally throughout the course so you can get valuable feedback. This will be through class and online discussions, workplace applications, and tutorials.

You will also be required to manage volunteers during the course, which will support your assessment.
