Overview
The MA Ceramics course is a challenging program that embraces the unique creative potential of clay. This course covers all facets of ceramic work, including craft and design, functional and decorative, one-off and mass production, and sculptural and architectural.

Modules
Year 1
Compulsory Modules
- Research Methodologies: Develop your knowledge and application of theory to underpin practical investigations.
- Research in Context: Establish a clear and critical rationale that will inform through research and underpin your practice decisions.
- Reflective Practice: Develop knowledge, conversancy, and application of reflective practice as evidenced through the use of a Reflective Journal.
- Experimental Practice: Analyze, de-construct, and re-construct through practical activities.
- Specialist Practice: Utilize theoretical debate and discussion to stimulate analytical, creative, and innovative responses to your practice.
- Ceramics Advanced Practice: Realize your ideas and aspirations as identified in earlier modules through the successful completion of a major study within ceramics practice.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants should hold a 2:2 degree or equivalent professional experience or learning in a related field.
- Applications from all candidates will be considered on their merits.
- A detailed admissions procedure will be forwarded on application.
- IELTS: Score of 6.0 with no component score lower than 5.5 or above.
- A high level of achievement in undergraduate studies at a university elsewhere such as North America: Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
Fees and Funding
- UK: Full-time £9,450 per year, Part-time £1,050 per 20 credits.
- International: Full-time £17,900 per year.

Learning and Assessment
The theoretical modules on this course are used to underpin the practical aspects of the course, providing the contextual framework for the study of contemporary ceramic design and craft practice.
The final assessment criteria will be agreed with your tutors.
Throughout your time with us, you’ll be asked to keep an ongoing ‘reflective diary’ which you’ll use to record the development of your ideas, critical reflection, and analysis.
The program culminates in a public exhibition of student work.
By the time you graduate, you’ll have produced an impressive portfolio of work to a professional standard.
