Course Overview
Our supervision of Counselling for Depression (CfD) course offers professional development for counsellors who are already trained in Person-centred or Humanistic approaches, CfD and who have significant clinical and supervision experience. This course provides you with a thorough grounding in the theory, evidence base and practice of supervision of CfD.
Learning Outcomes and Aims
This course aims to provide a baseline of assessed competency for the supervision of counselling for depression (IAPT recommended form of treatment for depression).
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Systematically apply theoretical knowledge in support of professional understanding and personal awareness relating to the CFD supervisory approach
- Demonstrate competence in meeting the minimum requirements of the Supervisory Adherence Scale
Entry Requirements
- Diploma in humanistic or person centred counselling or psychotherapy
- Evidence of working towards BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapy accreditation or equivalent
- Successful completion of CfD training
- Either a qualification to provide clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists (eg cert or diploma in supervision) Or 60 hours experience of providing clinical supervision to counsellors and/or psychotherapists in a healthcare setting.
Other Requirements
- Opportunity to undertake a minimum of 6 supervision sessions with CfD trainee or counsellor
- Support of Line Manager to participate
- Support of Supervisor to participate
- Support of SHA/Commissioner to participate
Fees and Funding
- Course fee: £2000. Places are currently funded by NHS England.
Progression Pathways
Qualify in CfD then after clinical experience complete the Supervision of CfD course to supervise other counsellors/psychotherapists.
Learning Environment
Following the two-day training programme, trainee CfD supervisors are required to complete a minimum of six supervision sessions. Sessions should be audio-recorded and two of these submitted for assessment. These will be assessed by the University staff using the key PCE Supervision Competences. The two clinical recordings will be of at least 36 / 54 on the Supervisory adherence scale as dictated by the professional body.
