This module enables the candidates to explore safeguarding children in a comparative context and develop their own expertise in international safeguarding.

Aims and Objectives
- Critically appraise theories and evidence underpinning service development and practice for safeguarding children in an international setting
- Critically review current practice in light of evidence from research
- Demonstrate enhanced understanding and knowledge of improving effective inter-professional and multidisciplinary working in the interests of safeguarding children
- Critically analyse policy, guidance and practice in relation to assessment of need and risk
- Demonstrate critical reflection and enhanced knowledge of professional decision making and skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding children in a comparative international context

- The contemporary context of safeguarding children in an international context
- The impact of parenting in adversity on the safeguarding of children
- Policy, guidance and practice in relation to assessment of need and risk
- Developing strategies for effective Inter-professional / multidisciplinary working
- Global perspectives on the notion of the vulnerable child
- Current international policy and government drivers – comparative international approaches
- Comparative international law including case law, global human rights, advocacy
Entry Requirements
- Relevant undergraduate degree at 2:2 or above, or evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level
