Our Sports Coaching and Performance MSc puts you at the forefront of sport coaching practice. Apply your skills to real world contexts, giving you practical experience.

  • Professional Identity
    • Module code: TL4061
    • Description: You will critically examine how our values and beliefs translate into behaviours. You'll learn about self-awareness and discuss how personal philosophy can affect individuals in a sport context. You will focus on your own personal and professional development.
  • Professional Inquiry
    • Module code: TL4062
    • Description: This module is designed to give you the knowledge, techniques and skills necessary to undertake an independent research project. In doing so you'll gain a theoretical and practical framework upon which to base quantitative and qualitative approaches to research, data-collection and analysis
  • Professional Landscape
    • Module code: TL4063
    • Description: This module will give you the opportunity to use theoretical and practical knowledge developed within your programme. You'll also apply techniques of reflective learning to their practice. Drawing upon your own professional context, you'll demonstrate a detailed understanding of the social, political and economic landscape that you currently or aspire to operate in.
  • Professional Leadership: Culture and Change
    • Module code: TL4064
    • Description: Effective strategic leadership is essential for success in sports organisations and educational settings. This module helps you understand the challenges and opportunities of driving change in dynamic environments with multiple stakeholders. You’ll learn how culture can either support or resist change and see the importance of developing interpersonal excellence, and building relationships within and outside your organisation.
  • Independent Study Project for Sport
    • Module code: TL4065
    • Description: This module aims to develop your critical analysis and conceptual thinking skills through an independent, sustained, and in-depth investigation into a topic relevant to your programme of study. You'll achieve this by choosing one of three project options: a research dissertation, a consultancy project, or an enterprise project.
  • Coach Learning and Development
    • Module code: TL4066
    • Description: You will critically examine the theories and practices that underpin effective coaching. You'll also explore and discuss research on effective coach development strategies. You will analyse how this supports current coach development practice.
  • Performance Enhancement
    • Module code: TL4067
    • Description: Learn how to systematically analyse and evaluate the performance of athletes and teams. You'll use a range of diagnostic tools to examine the technical, tactical, physical, mental and team dynamics of performance. Based on this, you'll decide on the appropriate intervention. You will then learn how to plan and implement bespoke performance interventions.

Entry requirements

  • 2.2 (Hons) degree or accepted equivalent in a sports coaching or related disciplines (e.g. sport science). Other graduates who can demonstrate a commitment to the study of sport or who have significant experience in a related sport industry will also be considered for entry
  • Applicants where English is not the first language need to demonstrate their ability in the English Language through obtaining an IELTS score of 6.0 or above with no sub score below 5.5 or equivalent.

Fees and funding

  • UK: £9,450 per year (full-time), £1,050 per 20 credits (part-time)
  • International: £17,900 per year (full-time)

  • As part of your course there may be additional costs to consider that are not included in your tuition fees. Most of these will be optional, but some courses have essential additional costs.
