Aiming for a senior role in fire safety? Fire Engineering could be your course. We’re a recognised Centre of Excellence for fire safety engineering and our research centre is second to none.

What you'll do

• You’ll work with the training team at Lancashire Fire and Rescue HQ in Year 1.
• Take the chance to take part in international exchange visits with our partners in the Middle East and Hong Kong.
• Our Engineering Innovation Centre enables you to work on real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities.

Our Fire Engineering alumni find themselves in senior positions in fire safety design, fire safety engineering and fire safety consulting, and many are on their way to becoming senior fire safety officers.

Entry requirements

• UCAS: 64 points at A2
• BTEC Extended Diploma: MPP
• BTEC Diploma: MM
• Pass Access Course: 64 points
• International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 64 points from Higher Level subjects.
• T Level: P (D or E)
• IELTS: grade 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5
• GCSEs: 5 at Grade C /4 including Maths and English or equivalent

Learning and assessment

• Delivery is via a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study.
• Assessment is by examination and/or coursework, eg group projects, modelling exercises or time-controlled assignments, short answer questions, essays, practical reports or tests, problem solving exercises, critical reviews or presentations.

• There’s an Industrial Liaising Committee for this course, involving a number of leading companies in fire safety engineering and management, and Fire and Rescue Services.

• This course offers an optional 48-week sandwich placement in industry between the second and third years.
