Our award-winning Fashion Design course has been producing successful graduates for more than 50 years. They go on to become creative and innovative designers for all sectors of the fashion industry.

What you'll do

• There are opportunities to showcase fashion collections at Graduate Fashion Week in London – a key platform for launching your career and getting noticed by industry professionals.
• You have the option to complete a work placement in the third year or move directly into the final year and complete your degree in three years.
• You’ll have the opportunity to work on briefs that have outcomes linked to your career aspirations and build an impressive portfolio.

Year 1

• Critical Studies in Fashion and Textiles 1
  • Module code: FQ1001
  • Description: This module introduces you to the study of Design History in the context of the style and culture at various periods in History, eg examining the role of the Designer in Society, and it's historical, cultural, and geographical considerations as well as gender and race perspectives.
• Fashion Design I
  • Module code: FS1001
  • Description: In this module you will be given the freedom to start projects in a number of areas. You may explore topics individually or combined providing you show your understand of the theory and creatively present your work. Your keys areas of research involves fashion design and technology in the market, as well as market recognition.
• Fashion Design II
  • Module code: FS1002
  • Description: This module will give you the opportunity to take a design you sketched and researched to a finished garment stage. To benefit your studies more you will pair up with your peers in final year to in preparation of their final collection.
• Fashion Communication and Presentation Methods
  • Module code: FS1102
  • Description: This module aims to develop your drawing confidence. You will have the opportunity to build a creative portfolio of work.

Year 2

• Preparation for Industry
  • Module code: FP2103
  • Description: In this module, you will have the opportunity to meet a range of guest speakers from the industry who will offer insight and knowledge on the career progression within the Fashion arena. You will be able to highlight industry requirements and set a target to reach them.
• Fashion Design III
  • Module code: FS2001
  • Description: Are you ready to deep dive into the world of Fashion? Our module will explore areas of Fashion Design and will allow you to investigate fields that spark your interest. You will be creating a presentation to build you communication and ultimately be prepared for the industry. In this module you'll be encouraged to showcase your work in competitions.
• Fashion Design IV
  • Module code: FS2002
  • Description: In this module you will build a portfolio tailored to the industry that you are most interested in pursuing. You will have to demonstrate to the potential employer exactly what it is you can offer.
• Outerwear Design and Creation
  • Module code: FS2105
  • Description: This module aims to build your confidence and knowledge. You'll be able to professionally approach the development, pattern cutting and manufacture within the specialism of the outerwear sector.

Year 3

• Fashion Design IV
  • Module code: FS3002
  • Description: Providing a foundation for producing a well-researched final collection of innovative fashion garments and will support your designing process in preparation for the manufacturing of a final collection aimed at a specific, personally identified area of the fashion industry linked to your chosen pathway.
• Fashion Collection
  • Module code: FS3008
  • Description: In this module you will be building on selected pathways identified in Year 2. You'll develop creative outcomes dictated by detailed briefs. Creative briefs will outline the conceptual, commercial, and fashion enterprise pathways. You'll choose between two options to present a final conclusion: either a conceptual fashion collection, commercial portfolio, and showroom presentation or a collection and business proposal.
• Experimental Silhouette Investigation
  • Module code: FS3009
  • Description: This module encourages you to experiment on designer level collections. You will learn to design a more innovative approach to cutting, in preparation for a final collection to show via a formal presentation.

Entry requirements

• UCAS: 96 points at A2
• BTEC Extended Diploma: MMM
• BTEC Diploma: DD
• Pass Access Course: 96 UCAS points
• International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 96 points from Higher Level subjects
• T Level: P (C+)
• IELTS: 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5
• GCSEs: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent
• Applicants are required to submit a portfolio for consideration.

Fees and funding

• UK: £9,535 per year
• International: £17,325 per year
• Placement year: £1,623 for the placement year
