Overview
This Level 7 short course is designed to help midwives apply theory and practical knowledge to optimize physiological childbirth. The module requires theoretical and reflective engagement with a range of concepts and aims, which are then applied to practical, empathic, rights-based solutions in a UK and global context.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop knowledge and philosophical reflection in the context of childbirth and maternal and infant wellbeing
- Identify personal constructs of midwifery and childbirth
- Engage with concepts of normality and diversity
- Appraise specific research into parameters of the physiological norm
- Develop theoretical insights into the nature and impact of the birth environment
- Review practical approaches to help optimal labour, birth, and transition to early parenting

Entry Requirements
- Applicants should hold at least a 2:2 degree in a health-related area
- Applicants with a core or equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas Higher Education Institution
- UK applicants must be a qualified midwife registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK and have no restrictions on their professional practice
- A detailed admissions procedure will be forwarded on application
- Demonstrate evidence of successful academic study at a minimum of Level 6 or equivalent and is normally within the last 3 years
- 2 references required
- Overseas applicants must demonstrate evidence of their qualification or registration as a midwife and hold a current midwifery licence to practice in their own country
- IELTS: Score of at least 7.0 or equivalent within the last 2 years
