This module aims to encourage those working with children to develop critical perspectives on childhood.

This module aims to encourage those working with children to develop critical perspectives on childhood. The module will consider dominant theoretical positions about childhood and critically explore how such perspectives impact on the way children are treated in our society.

Entry Requirements
This module is aimed at anyone interested in improving the knowledge and understanding of working with children and young people in complex professional environments – in social work, health, education, early years, youth work and beyond.
All candidates need to ensure that they have a relevant undergraduate degree at 2:2 or above or evidence of their ability to study at postgraduate level.

Progression Pathways
Under the School’s Centre for CPD portfolio, this module can be completed as standalone or towards one of the following courses:

- Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development and Practice
- Masters in Professional Development and Practice

Learning Environment
This course is one semester, comprising a two hour seminar once a week, plus self-directed study time required to complete assessment.
Assessment
A short presentation and a written assignment.
