The Confucius Institute offers free online HSK Chinese courses at various levels, from beginner to advanced. These courses will prepare you to take the HSK exams and develop your language skills.

Course Details

HSK 1 - Beginner Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: The HSK 1 course is aimed at beginners and will prepare you for the HSK 1 exam. You will learn pinyin and common Chinese characters. You will also learn essential vocabulary and grammar. This will allow you to engage in basic day-to-day communication.
• Textbook: HSK 1
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Tuesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm
• Course fee: Free

HSK 2 - Beginner Plus Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: You will refine your pronunciation and learn more about phonetics. You'll also learn more complex vocabulary, grammar structures and sentence patterns. This will give you the ability to hold everyday conversations.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 1
• Textbook: HSK 2
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Tuesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm
• Course fee: Free

HSK 3 (part A) - Intermediate Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: You will continue to develop your pronunciation of words. You will improve your understanding of pinyin, vocabulary and grammar. You'll also continue to practice reading, writing, listening and speaking.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 2
• Textbook: HSK 3
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Tuesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm

HSK 3 (part B) - Intermediate Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: You will continue to develop your vocabulary and grammar, learning up to 600 Chinese words. You'll also continue reading, writing, listening and speaking Chinese. You'll be able to communicate in situations like shopping or travelling.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 3 (part A)
• Textbook: HSK 3
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Tuesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm

HSK 4 (part A) - Intermediate Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: HSK 4 part A is aimed at intermediate to advanced Chinese speakers. You will expand your vocabulary and master more complex grammar structures. You'll improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 3 (part B)
• Textbook: HSK 4
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm

HSK 4 (part B) - Intermediate Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: HSK 4 part B is for intermediate to advanced Chinese speakers. You'll develop your Chinese vocabulary up to 1,200 words. You'll improve your pronunciation, grammar and sentence structure. You'll continue to develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 4 (part A)

HSK 5 (part A) - Advanced Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: This course is aimed at advanced Chinese learners who want to refine their skills. You'll master more complex vocabulary and grammar structures. You will be able to engage in fluent conversation. You'll also enhance your listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 4 (part B)
• Textbook: HSK 5
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm

HSK 5 (part B) - Advanced Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: This course is for advanced Chinese speakers. You'll be able to talk in fluent Chinese about a range of topics. You'll learn more about grammar and sentence structures. You'll also improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 5 (part A)
• Textbook: HSK 5
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm

HSK 5 (part C) - Advanced Chinese

• Online delivery
• Course description: This course is for advanced Chinese speakers. You'll develop a vocabulary of 2,500 Chinese words and be able to engage in fluent conversation. You'll learn more about grammar and sentence structures. You'll also improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Entry requirements: Passed HSK 5 (part B)
• Textbook: HSK 5
• Duration: 20 weeks
• Delivery: Online sessions, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 7.00 - 9.00pm
