Course Description

This foundation year will give you a broad understanding of Tourism, Hospitality and Event management. Our Hospitality foundation pathway is ideal if you are hoping to progress in a professional Hospitality role. In your foundation year, you’ll explore the hospitality industry. You'll look at its development from an international and national perspective. We'll teach you a range of transferable skills, which meet the ever-changing demands of this dynamic industry.


Once you pass your foundation year you’ll be able to progress onto our International Hospitality Management BA (Hons) course. On the course you’ll gain a more constructive and critical understanding of the global and national hospitality industry.

What you'll do

  • You'll explore the hospitality industry and its development from an international and national perspective.
  • Our foundation year students take part in a variety of local field visits in and around Preston.
  • In subsequent years you may also take part in both national and international field visits to, for example, The Lake District, Cyprus and Iceland (subject to change each year).

Entry requirements

  • UCAS: 64 points at A2
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: MPP
  • BTEC Diploma: MM
  • Pass Access Course: 64 UCAS points
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 72 points from Higher Level subjects
  • T Level: P (D or E )
  • IELTS: 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5
  • GCSEs: 5 at C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent

Fees and funding

  • UK: £9,535 for the first year
  • International: £17,250 for the first year

Learning and assessment

  • You’ll learn through lectures, seminars and online classes.
  • You will attend on average 12 hours of study per week.
  • Personal study also forms a big part of this course and you’ll be expected to work for about 36 hours a week in total.
  • You’ll work through different assessments - predominantly coursework.
  • Assignments may take the form of essays, reports, presentations, poster presentations, development journals or portfolios.
  • Some assessments are individual and others will involve group work.
