Course Overview
The Advanced Certificate in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) for Engineers is designed for engineers working in SMEs in engineering sectors, such as aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, and manufacturing, as well as graduates seeking to enhance their employability. This course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to lead and support process improvement, variability reduction, and standardization projects within engineering environments.
Entry Requirements
- Entry qualifications should normally be with HNC/HND or above in an engineering subject.
- Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications or relevant work/life experience who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from Advanced Certificate level studies are welcome.
- MP2905 or equivalent is recommended as a pre-requisite to the course. Students entering without MP2905 will take a written test and students should obtain above 70 per cent to enter the course.
- Students speaking English as a second language are required to achieve IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

Course Structure
Compulsory Module:
- Module 1 (20 credits): Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) for Engineers This module enables students to understand their role in leading and supporting process improvement, variability reduction, and standardization projects within engineering environments. Students will be introduced to Lean Six Sigma methodologies, including DMAICT (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control, Transfer) and DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify) / DFSS (Design For Six Sigma).
Core Module:
- Module 2 (30 credits): This module enables students to apply the knowledge gained in Lean Six Sigma methodologies through an individual project. This plays a major role in the development of the skills necessary to work effectively on a Lean Six Sigma project and involves self-initiated and self-directed study, the preparation of written reports, and oral discussions and presentations.
