Program Overview
AHP First Contact Practice in Primary Care
Short Course
This 40-credit master's level module develops professional, clinical and leadership skills for Allied Health Professionals. It will help them design, implement and deliver patient care at the first point of contact in primary care.
Module Overview
This well-established module was the first of its kind and developed in collaboration with NHS England at the conception of First Contact Practice.
The module aligns with Stage 1 and Stage 2 detailed in the ‘Roadmaps to Practice’ published by NHS England. On completion you will be eligible to register with the Centre for Advancing Practice as a First Contact Practitioner.
Clinical Learning
The module requires 10 days (75 hours) of clinical supervision. This will require the participation and direction of a suitably qualified Clinical Mentor. It is the Clinical Mentor who will assess your clinical competencies within the clinical assessment in alignment with to the knowledge skills and attributes identified in the relevant Roadmap to Practice.
Entry Requirements
- All Allied Health Professionals must have 5 years of post-registration experience.
- All routes to paramedic registration are acceptable previous level 6 and 7 study is not a requirement.
- Physiotherapists must have 5 years of post-registration experience with 3 years of musculoskeletal specific clinical experience.
- A suitable clinical mentor must be identified prior to enrolment. The Clinical Mentor should be a registered medical practitioner or Advanced Clinical Practitioner (with at least 3 years’ experience in their role) and have clinical responsibilities within primary care. It is essential that your Clinical Mentor is identified at the start of the module. It is your responsibility to ensure you have appropriate supervision from a Clinical Mentor during the module. If you are unsure about any aspect of this, please contact the module leaders. Your local primary care training hub might be able to facilitate the identification of a suitable Clinical Mentor.
