Advance your career with our intensive postgraduate DClinDent Prosthodontics programme. It's designed to enhance your clinical and academic expertise so you can specialise in prosthodontics.

Our DClinDent Prosthodontics programme is for qualified dental graduates. It's one of only four specialty training options available in the UK. You'll learn through comprehensive academic, professional, research and clinical training.

You'll develop your skills in diagnostics, treatment planning, and practical expertise. You'll also deepen your understanding of specialist evidence-based research. Starting with simulated treatments, you'll progress to hands-on patient care at our Dental Clinic. You'll be supported by internationally renowned academic and specialist experts.

The clinical training is enhanced by seminars, lectures, journal clubs and multidisciplinary case-based discussions. You'll have opportunities to engage in research and advanced evidence-based practice.

• Clinical Prosthodontics 1
  • In this module you'll be introduced to foundation topics and practical skills relating to the safe practice of fixed and removable prosthodontics within a primary dental care environment.

• Clinical Prosthodontics 2
  • You will build on first-year Clinical Prosthodontics skills. You'll learn more about the safe and appropriate delivery of prosthodontic treatment in primary dental care.

• Specialty Training Prosthodontics 1
  • Gain knowledge and skills in specialist prosthodontics. Develop your ability to examine, diagnose and formulate a treatment plan. You'll also learn to take a multidisciplinary approach to managing complicated dental conditions.

• Core Knowledge and Applied Research Skills
  • You'll identify individual goals and review your professional development throughout the research process. You'll ensure you are aligned with best practice.

• Research Methods Design
  • Develop your research and critical appraisal skills. Learn to apply epidemiological principles to research design. Gain the skills to analyse, compose and propose statistical results and epidemiological evidence. You'll also appraise and identify gaps in medical and public health literature.

• Research Planning and Proposal Development
  • Identify a relevant and original research topic. You'll be able to plan appropriate methodology for your primary research. This includes preparing an ethics application, writing a research proposal and communicating about research.

• Specialty Training Prosthodontics 2
  • Consolidate specialist knowledge and skills in Prosthodontics. Develop your ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team on complicated dental conditions. You'll also develop your ability to reflect and evaluate your current clinical practice.

• Research and Thesis
  • You will focus on the practical part of your research. You'll be expected to design, conduct, analyse and interpret the results of an investigation. This research will make a contribution to your professional discipline.

Entry requirements

• Applicants should be an experienced dentist with a minimum of 3 years’ experience on commencement of the course
• Applicants must be registered with an appropriate regulatory body and be a practising dentist
• Competency in English language (IELTS Level 6.5 or equivalent) is required
• All suitable applicants will be interviewed which will include a discussion of the proposed research area
• Satisfactory Occupational Health Clearance and DBS are required
• Applicants are required to submit a CV and portfolio of 10 clinical cases to detail academic and professional experience and two references, including one from a Senior Practitioner or Manager with their application.

Fees and funding

• 2025/26
  • UK: Full-time £26,500 per year
  • International: Full-time £53,000 per year

Additional costs

As part of your course there may be additional costs to consider that are not included in your tuition fees. Most of these will be optional, but some courses have essential additional costs.

Pathway opportunities

This programme follows the specialty curricula stated by the General Dental Council. On completion of the course and equivalent of 30 months full-time specialty specific training, you will be able to apply for the Royal Colleges of Surgeons examinations for Membership in Prosthodontics.
