Immediate Life Support Training in Dentistry

Course Overview

This one-day Life Support Training course is designed for dental practitioners involved in the management of patients treated with conscious sedation. The course covers immediate life support training (ILS) in dentistry and the recognition and management of sedation-related complications, including oversedation and respiratory depression.

Course Objectives

On this course, you will:


  • Gain knowledge of the use of ABCDE approach in the recognition and management of a sick patient
  • Gain the ability to recognise and manage respiratory depression and cardiac arrest and know how to summon help in an emergency
  • Learn and demonstrate the use of effective chest compressions as a single rescuer and part of a team
  • Learn and demonstrate administration of oxygen using a bag-valve-mask and management of the airway using appropriate airway adjuncts
  • Learn and demonstrate the safe and effective operation of an automated external defibrillator
  • Have knowledge of how to recognise and manage common sedation, medical and dental emergencies in the dental practice and administer drugs appropriate to your role in the clinical team
