Our post-qualifying framework (PQF) allows health and social care practitioners to continue their professional development and achieve further qualifications in their field.
Course Overview
This module addresses the current infection prevention and control agenda and the factors that contribute to the development of Healthcare Associated Infection. Students will be able to develop their knowledge and understanding of the core principles that prevent and control infection in order to implement effectively these principles in practice.
The topics covered include the external and internal drivers influencing infection control practice, the chain of infection and strategies to prevent and control infection based on the current evidence base for best practice. Microbiology, the role of the microbiology lab and the immune system and its function will also be addressed.
You may study this module on its own as part of your continuing professional development or it may contribute to the award of BSc (Hons) Professional Practice. If you wish to record a Specialist Practitioner qualification you will be required to provide evidence that you have met the required standards for registration.

Students must be working in a clinical area relevant to the module content.

Learning Environment
This course consists of 1 hour chatroom per week x 12 sessions. (20 credits at level 6).
