Curriculum
The Certificate of Advanced Study in Public Leadership and Management is a 12-credit degree that can be completed full time in one semester of study or part time over one to three years, either on campus or online.
Program Goals
- Identify and define key public administration concepts.
- Explain and assess leadership and managerial theories, skills and competencies.
- Apply problem-solving and analytic skills.
- Develop your role and potential as a public administrator and leader.
Core Course
- One required course: PAI 895 - Managerial Leadership Designed for managerial leaders in the public sector and focuses on the changing environment of management at all levels of the organizational hierarchy, the latest thinking in leadership, and concrete ideas to enhance students’ managerial abilities. Students will apply the theory to managerial situations and reflect on how they can continue to develop new leadership skills.
Approved Electives
- Three elective courses selected from an approved list of offerings from the department.
Admission and Financial Aid
This program is open to students who have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least seven years of work experience.
- Financial aid in the form of federal education loans are not available for this stand-alone CAS.
- Applicants should inquire within their employers/agencies about funding for professional development.
U.S. Veterans
- The CAS program is an approved program of study at Syracuse University, allowing student veterans to access VA benefits toward their study in this field.
- Student veterans are assisted with their veteran educational benefits by the Office of Veteran Success, including unlimited participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program, allowing Post-9/11 GI Bill students to receive additional funding to cover required tuition and fees.
