Program Overview
MRes Health and Care Research
The MRes Health and Care Research course is designed for health and care professionals to develop research knowledge and experience, advancing their careers.

It offers formal training in research methods and practice-based experience in managing and delivering research aligned with contemporary needs and priorities.

Learning and Teaching
The course is delivered by experienced academic and clinical academic staff with extensive research experience in health and care settings. It is a blended learning course, providing flexible learning opportunities for full-time or part-time study. The course includes compulsory modules and an optional module to complete the course.
Study Time
This course lasts one year full-time or two years part-time, starting in September. Study time involves a mix of scheduled sessions, online activities, and self-guided study. The course includes a 90-credit extended project module where students work independently with supervisory support.
Assessment
Assessment methods may include coursework, presentations, written examinations, or a portfolio. The extended research project is assessed through a report, a poster presentation, and oral discussion.
Entry
Entry Requirements
- A Bachelors honours degree of 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
- At least 12 months of relevant professional experience and/or equivalent qualifications may be considered on an individual basis.
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check is required before starting the course.
Selection Process
Shortlisted applicants are invited to a 30-minute virtual interview on Microsoft Teams.
English Language Requirement
International and EU applicants require a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with 6.5 in each component.
