Overview

The BA(Hons) Education in Professional Practice (Top Up) is a third-year top-up degree that allows students to continue working in an educational support role while gaining an honours degree and progressing their career.

Working in education is highly rewarding, and this course helps students progress their career in education and related fields. Students will increase their knowledge and relate their existing experience to educational theory.

Entry Requirements

Typical Offers

  • GCSE: Grade C/4 in English, or equivalent.
  • English Language Requirement: Overall score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component OR Overall score of 6.0 with 6.0 in each component.

Entry Criteria

Students should typically meet the following criteria:


  • 120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5 in Education or a related subject, from a Foundation Degree or equivalent.
  • Applicants without a Foundation Degree are considered, dependent on evidence of their alternative professional qualification and/or educational experience.

  • Reflective Practice
  • Optional module: Guided Studies (available only in exceptional circumstances)

Learning and Teaching

Students attend classes on one day each week during term time. Tasks are work-based, so students need to be employed or volunteering in an educational setting.


Assessment

The course uses a range of assessments designed to enhance learning and support future employability. There are no written exams as part of the formal assessments.

The course is directly linked to the workplace, and students gain credits by completing tasks at work. Students must be working or volunteering in an education-related field for a minimum of 16 hours a week.
