Economics and Finance BSc Hons

The BSc Economics and Finance course combines the broad sweep and critical thinking of economics with a focus on markets and investing from finance. Course Structure

The course is divided into three years:

• Year 1: Foundations of economics and finance, including modules on accounting, financial markets, mathematics and statistics for economics, principles of macroeconomics, and principles of microeconomics.
• Year 2: Microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, econometrics, corporate finance, and asset pricing.
• Year 3: Students enhance their knowledge, develop skills further, and tailor their studies to career aspirations by focusing on areas that interest them the most. Specialisations include econometrics and data science in economics, banking and behavioural finance, fintech and market microstructure, and public policy analysis.

Entry Requirements

• A levels: AAB, including Mathematics.
• Access to HE Diploma: 36 Level 3 credits at Distinction plus 9 Level 3 credits at Merit, with evidence of equivalent to A level Mathematics grade B.
• Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level, or equivalent qualification, as long as any subject requirements are met.
• BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD accepted alongside A level Mathematics grade B.
• International Baccalaureate: 35 points overall with 16 points from the best 3 HL subjects, including 6 in Mathematics HL.
• GCSE requirements: English Language grade 4/C.
• English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component.

Fees and Funding

• Undergraduate Tuition Fees for 2026/27:
  • Home: Ł9,790
  • International: Ł26,260
• Additional costs: May include books, stationery, printing, photocopying, binding, and general subsistence on trips and visits.
• College fees: Ł40 for undergraduates and research students, Ł15 for students on one-year courses.
• Computer equipment and internet access: Students require access to a computer and reliable internet access.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Students are automatically considered for main scholarships and bursaries when they apply. Eligible funding opportunities include:

• Lancaster Bursary: Ł1,000 in each year of study, based on household income.
• Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship Home: Ł3,000 in the first year of study, based on entry grades.
• International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship: Ł3,000, as a tuition fee reduction, per year of study, based on entry grades.
• Undergraduate International Regional Scholarship: Ł3,000, as a tuition fee reduction, per year of study, based on nationality or country of domicile and entry grades.
