The BSc Economics and Finance (Study Abroad) course combines the broad sweep and critical thinking of economics with a focus on markets and investing from finance. Introduction

This course explores a wide array of topics at the intersection between the complex worlds of economics and finance. Students develop the analytical skills and intellectual toolbox to help answer questions such as: How do financial markets work? What is the link between interest rates and exchange rates? What are the main causes of economic recessions and financial crises?

Course Structure

  • Year 1: Foundations of economics and finance, including modules such as Foundations of Accounting, Foundations of Financial Markets, Securities and Institutions, Mathematics and Statistics for Economics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics.
  • Year 2: Microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, econometrics, corporate finance, and asset pricing.
  • Year 3: Study Abroad year at one of our global partner institutions, providing a valuable experience to develop a global outlook, expand professional networks, and gain cultural and personal skills.
  • Year 4: Enhancement of knowledge, development of skills, and tailoring of studies to career aspirations, with options such as Econometrics and Data Science in Economics, Banking and Behavioural Finance, Fintech and Market Microstructure, and Public Policy Analysis.

Entry Requirements

  • A Levels: AAB, including Mathematics.
  • Access to HE Diploma: 36 Level 3 credits at Distinction plus 9 Level 3 credits at Merit.
  • Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD accepted alongside A level Mathematics grade B.
  • International Baccalaureate: 35 points overall with 16 points from the best 3 HL subjects, including 6 in Mathematics HL.
  • GCSE Requirements: English Language grade 4/C.
  • English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component.

Fees and Funding
