What to Expect
The four-year BEng Hons Nuclear Engineering with Placement Year degree starts with a general engineering first year, including core themes of design, materials, thermodynamics, and heat transfer, along with mathematics. Students share this experience with all School of Engineering students, regardless of specialization, to become well-rounded graduates with excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Your Placement
In Year 3, students undertake a year in industry, applying knowledge and skills learned so far and gaining invaluable experience. The university has extensive links with multinational corporate companies and smaller specialist SMEs, providing students with a range of placement opportunities.

- A levels: ABB, including Mathematics and a physical science subject
- Access to HE Diploma: Considered on a case-by-case basis
- Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level
- BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM in an Engineering-related subject
- International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall, including Mathematics and a physical science subject
- Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers: Accepted, with specific subject requirements
- T levels: Accepted alongside A level Mathematics grade B
GCSE Requirements:
- Mathematics: grade 6/B
- English Language: grade 4/C
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component
