Program Overview


Pharmacology BSc Hons

The Pharmacology BSc Hons program at Lancaster University is a three-year undergraduate degree that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of pharmacology and its applications in modern medicine.

This program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to understand the interactions between drugs and living systems, and to contribute to the development of new treatments for various diseases.


Course Structure

The course is structured into three years, with a focus on progressive training in pharmacology.


  • In Year 1, students gain a thorough grounding in the biomedical basis of pharmacology, studying core topics such as introduction to pharmacology, molecules of life, genetics, and molecular biology.
  • In Year 2, students study more advanced topics, including molecular genetics, microbiology, immunology, and drug design and development.
  • In Year 3, students focus on themes such as neuropharmacology, advanced drug design and development, and undertake an independent research project.

Fees and Funding

The annual tuition fee for the program is Ł9,790 for home students and Ł30,770 for international students.

  • Students may be eligible for scholarships and bursaries, such as the Lancaster Bursary and the Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship.

Entry Requirements

The typical entry requirements for the program are:


  • A levels: AAB, including Biology and Chemistry
  • Access to HE Diploma: considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: accepted in place of one A level
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD, considered alongside A level Chemistry grade B
  • International Baccalaureate: 35 points overall, with 16 points from the best 3 HL subjects
  • GCSE requirements: Mathematics grade 5/B, English Language grade 4/C
  • English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in each component
