The study abroad year provides an opportunity for students to enrich their university experience, expand their professional network, and gain cultural and personal skills. Students will study at one of Lancaster's approved international partner universities, choosing specialist modules relating to their degree and having the opportunity to study modules from other subjects offered by the host university.
What to Expect
The five-year MEng Hons Nuclear Engineering (Study Abroad) degree begins with a general engineering first year, including core themes of design, materials, thermodynamics, and heat transfer, along with mathematics. In the second year, students start to specialize in nuclear engineering, learning core themes such as nuclear science, nuclear engineering systems, decommissioning, and nuclear safety. The third year enables students to apply their skills in an individual project, developing their research and design skills further. The final year includes master's-level training, with students undertaking an individual project that allows them to develop their interests towards their future career.

Entry Requirements
- A levels: AAA, including Mathematics and a physical science subject
- Access to HE Diploma: Considered on a case-by-case basis
- Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level
- BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD in an Engineering-related subject
- International Baccalaureate: 36 points overall, including Mathematics and a physical science subject
- GCSE requirements: Mathematics grade 6/B, English Language grade 4/C
- Additional requirements: Interview may be required
- English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component
Course Structure
The program is divided into five years, with the first year covering general engineering principles, the second year introducing nuclear engineering, and the subsequent years providing specialized knowledge and practical experience. The study abroad year takes place in the fourth year.
