Introduction to Sociology and Criminology (Study Abroad) BA Hons

The Sociology and Criminology (Study Abroad) BA Hons program at Lancaster University is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary course that explores the complex relationships between society, crime, and the criminal justice system.   • International Baccalaureate: 30 points overall, including 15 points from the best 3 HL subjects
  • Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers: Considered on a case-by-case basis
  • T levels: Merit overall
  • GCSE requirements: No specific requirements, but overall GCSE profile considered
  • English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component

Course Structure

  • Year 1: Core modules include Explaining Criminology, Exploring the Criminal Justice System, Framing Social Issues, Making Sense of Justice (Discovery module), and Thinking Sociologically.
  • Year 2: Core modules include Criminological Thought, Designing Sociological Research, Global Social Theory: Connecting Sociologies, and Research in Action: Methods for Investigating the Social World. Optional modules are also available.
  • Year 3: Study abroad year at an international partner university.
  • Year 4: Core modules include Advanced Sociological Theories and Applications, Prisons, Punishment and Society. Optional modules are also available.
