  • A levels: AAA, including Mathematics grade A and Physics grade A.
  • Access to HE Diploma: Generally not accepted.
  • Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales: Accepted in place of one A level.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: DDD considered alongside A level Mathematics grade A and A level Physics grade A.
  • International Baccalaureate: 36 points overall with 16 points from the best 3 HL subjects.
  • Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers: We are happy to admit applicants on the basis of five Highers.

Additional Requirements

  • GCSE requirements: No specific GCSE requirements, but the overall GCSE profile is considered.
  • English language requirements: IELTS score of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component.
  • International foundation programmes: Available for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements.

Course Structure

The program is structured over four years, with a common first year and subsequent years offering specialized modules and project work.


Year 1

  • Core modules include Experimental Physics, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, Mathematical Skills 1, Mathematical Skills 2, Physics Skills, and The Physical Universe.

Year 2

  • Modules such as Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Mathematical Techniques in Physics, Mechanics, Variations and Symmetry, Physics Modelling Project, and Properties of Matter.

Year 3

  • Field Theory in Quantum Mechanics, Problem solving and sustainability, Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Theoretical Physics Group Project.

Year 4

  • Advanced Theoretical Physics, Year 4 Physics Project, and optional modules including Advanced Condensed Matter Physics, Advanced Quantum Technology, Gauge theories, groups and symmetries, and General Relativity.
