Program Overview


Master's in English Literature

The Master's in English Literature program at Lancaster University offers students the opportunity to develop their critical voice through a rich engagement with literature from the medieval to the contemporary. The program is guided by a focus on the themes of world, spirit, body, and place, which reflects major Lancaster research strengths.


English Literature MA

The English Literature MA program allows students to select their own path through a variety of literary studies, both established and experimental. The program provides a gateway to literary study of all kinds, with a focus on the quartet of foundational critical terms: world, spirit, body, and place.


Study Opportunity at University of Padua, Italy

Each year, two students on Lancaster's MA English Literature have the opportunity to gain a second master's degree at the University of Padua in Italy. After completing their master's at Lancaster, students spend a year in Italy with no additional tuition fee, selecting modules from Padua's MA in Mobility Humanities in the Department of Historical Sciences. This program is taught in English, and students are awarded a master's degree from the University of Padua upon successful completion.


Literary Lancaster

The program is part of Literary Lancaster, a vibrant community of critics and writers. Students can enjoy a rich program of free literary events, both on campus and in the city's historic Castle Quarter.
