Program Overview
Veldcursus in Tanzania
The tropical field course is a three-week program where students travel to Tanzania to work alongside Tanzanian students. During this time, students will conduct their own microproject and explore various tropical biotopes.

Kies je eigen microproject
During the first week, students work in groups to conduct small microprojects on the campus of Sokoine University in Morogoro. Students choose a research topic based on their interests and develop a scientific question. Together with their peers, they design a research method and prepare for fieldwork.
Examples of microprojects
Some examples of microprojects conducted by students include:
- Diversiteit van vogels (Diversity of birds): Students investigated the types of bird species present on and around the campus and whether the presence of certain species depends on the type of habitat.
- Infecties bij knaagdieren (Infections in rodents): Students studied the prevalence of a virus among multi-mammate mice in different habitats and its presence in rodents living near humans.
- Warmte-ecologie van libellen (Heat ecology of dragonflies): Students examined the warming-up behavior of dragonflies and whether there is a difference in warming-up speed between males and females.
De nationale parken in
After the initial week, students travel to national parks, including Ruaha (savannah), Udzungwa (mountain forest), and Saadani (coastal with mangrove and coral reef). This allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the diversity of tropical biotopes.
