Introduction to the Micro-credential: Incident Assessment and Repression
The Micro-credential: Incident Assessment and Repression is a postgraduate program offered by the University of Antwerp. This program focuses on the assessment and repression of incidents involving hazardous materials.
Program Description
The program covers various topics, including:
- Incidents with flammable liquids
- Incidents with solid substances
- Incidents with fire-promoting and self-igniting substances, mutual reactions
- Release of hazardous substances in large fires
- Cooling gases and accidents with combustion installations
- Confined spaces

Learning Objectives
The program has the following learning objectives:
- The participant knows the theoretical and practical aspects involved in the transport of hazardous goods.
- The participant understands and recognizes all factors related to the prevention (proactive situations) and treatment (reactive situations) of such transports according to the different modes and can evaluate, describe, estimate, and advise on the risks.
- In the event of incidents with hazardous goods, the participant can assess all aspects of exposure to these substances in an adequate manner. The participant can also propose suitable means to quantitatively measure the risks, determine the exposure to the environment and persons, and translate the obtained information into well-founded advice.
- The participant possesses theoretical knowledge of existing models and their operation for measuring atmospheric processes and can name their advantages and disadvantages and translate the limitations into the correctness of the results obtained.
- The participant has in-depth knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination, knows their advantages and disadvantages, and can translate them into residual risks and regulations/advice for use in the event of incidents.
- The participant has in-depth knowledge of the technical means and actions required to combat accidents with hazardous substances. The participant can estimate the limitations and advantages in terms of providing well-founded, practically feasible advice.
##Evaluation The evaluation consists of a written exam without oral explanation, which is open book and includes multiple-choice questions. The evaluation criteria are:
- Completeness and relevance of the answer
- Demonstration of knowledge, insight, and applicability
- Demonstration of the acquisition of the predetermined final competencies
The exam is open book, including the use of digital tools (in the classroom). However, internet use is not allowed. The time span for the exam is 2 hours, with some time pressure. The exam does not have an increased threshold, except for questions that may lead to a score of -1 if a wrong decision or non-decision has serious consequences. This will be indicated in the question itself (KO).
