Postgraduaat in het Rampenmanagement
The Postgraduaat in het Rampenmanagement is a comprehensive program that focuses on operational functionality in a multidisciplinary framework, empirical and theoretical underpinnings, and a learning network of academics and practitioners.
Program Structure
The program consists of 10 separate modules, each under the responsibility of a titularis. Each module is worth 4 credits, except for the module "Eindwerk en rampoefening," which is worth 8 credits.
Required Modules
The required modules that are organized every academic year are:
- Module 1: Eindwerk en rampoefening (8 credits)
- Module 2: Algemeen kader en wetgeving (4 credits)
Elective Modules
The elective modules are not organized every academic year. In a given academic year, the following modules can be taken:
- Module 3: Medische technieken (4 credits)
- Module 4: Crisiscommunicatie (4 credits)
- Module 5: Informatiemanagement (4 credits)
- Module 6: Management & DIR CP-OPS (4 credits)
- Module 7: Technologische rampen (4 credits)
- Module 8: Psychosociale hulpverlening (4 credits)
- Module 9: Risicobeheer massamanifestaties (4 credits)
- Module 10: Humanitaire operaties (4 credits)
- Module XI: Nationaal crisisbeheer (4 credits)
Program Requirements
To successfully complete the Postgraduaat in het Rampenmanagement, students must earn 20 credits within 5 academic years of starting the program. The modules "Algemeen kader en wetgeving" (4 credits) and "Eindwerk en rampoefening" (8 credits) are mandatory. Students can choose the remaining 8 credits from the other modules. It is also possible to take all the modules.
Exceptions and Conditions
- Except for the modules "Algemeen kader en wetgeving" and "Eindwerk en rampoefening," not all modules are organized annually.
- Except for the module "Eindwerk en rampoefening," modules can also be taken separately.
- If a student wants to take the module "Incident Command System & DIR CP-OPS" as an individual module, there is an additional condition: the student must possess a certificate of Postgraduaat in het Rampenmanagement or have a brevet Crisissituatiebeheer from the FOD Binnenlandse zaken.
Program Objectives
After completing this program, students will be able to:
- Think multidisciplinarily and place an incident in a broader context.
- Communicate correctly during a disaster situation using the learned techniques.
- Lead meetings, come to joint decision-making, and provide follow-up of the action plan during a crisis situation.
- Develop, apply, and evaluate a risk analysis.
- Be aware of the aspects of international aid.
- Analyze an aspect of large-scale aid in depth and write a final paper with policy recommendations.
Activities
To gain a broader view of the field, several work visits are planned. Throughout the program, various practical exercises are also organized. The program concludes with a large-scale disaster exercise in which around 200 people participate.
Evaluation and Certificate
Various evaluation forms are applicable:
- Module 1: Final paper (written work with oral explanation for a jury) - skills test
- Module 2: Written exam
- Module 3: Written open-book exam
- Module 4: Self-directed evaluation - skills test
- Module 5: Self-directed evaluation - skills test
- Module 6: Continuous evaluation - written work with oral explanation for a jury
- Module 7: Written open-book exam
- Module 8: Continuous evaluation - self-directed evaluation - written work without oral explanation
- Module 9: Written open-book exam - continuous evaluation
- Module 10: Written open-book exam
The exam is in the Dutch language. Students must earn at least 50% on each of the four modules they take.
Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate of Postgraduaat in het Rampenmanagement.
