Introduction to the Chair of Crisis Governance

The Chair of Crisis Governance serves as a bridge between theory and practice, forged through a unique collaboration between practitioners and academics. This collaboration emerged from the urgent need to devise novel approaches to bolster organizations against crises.

Objectives of the Chair of Crisis Governance

The key objectives of the Chair of Crisis Governance include:

  • Comprehensive Crisis Governance: Advocating for a comprehensive approach to coping with crises, recognizing the need to integrate crises into everyday business operations, embracing dynamic events while ensuring stability.
  • Transcending Traditional Boundaries: The vision of crisis governance transcends organizational boundaries and traditional sectors, requiring collaborative efforts among stakeholders to tackle transboundary crises effectively.
  • Support Across All Stages: The framework supports organizations across all stages of managing crises, from anticipation and preparation to intervention and adaptation.
  • Focus on Resilience and Continual Improvement: Beyond understanding crisis complexities, the aim is to equip organizations with resilient tools to anticipate, cope with, and learn from challenges.

Winter School Crisis Governance

The Winter School on Crisis Governance is an intensive one-week program on crisis governance and resilience, taking place from 2 to 6 February 2026 at the University of Antwerp. The program, titled "From Turmoil to Tactics: A Deep Dive into Crisis Governance," offers a comprehensive exploration of crisis governance.

Annual Crisis Governance Meeting

The Annual Crisis Governance Meeting is a two-day event hosted by the Chair of Crisis Governance, bringing together practitioners and scientists in a conference-like setting to discuss crisis governance and related topics. The meeting addresses questions such as how organizations can adapt their operations to remain resilient amid turbulent conditions and shifting realities, and what key factors contribute to an organization's ability to successfully navigate a variety of risks in a constantly changing and dynamic environment.

Antwerp Crisis Conversations

The Antwerp Crisis Conversations include events such as "Governing Crisis Networks" and "Practical Implementation," which take place at the Antwerp Management School. These conversations are part of the Chair's efforts to facilitate discussions and knowledge sharing on crisis governance.

Industry Partners

The Chair of Crisis Governance collaborates with several industry partners, including:

  • Brandweer Zone Antwerpen
  • PM Risk Crisis Change
  • Port of Antwerp-Bruges
  • Brussels Airport Company

These partnerships reflect the Chair's commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in crisis governance.
