Program Overview


Introduction to the Dietetics and Nutrition BSc (Hons) Program

The Dietetics and Nutrition BSc (Hons) program at London Metropolitan University is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a dietitian or nutritionist. This program focuses on life and nutritional sciences, exploring the role of diet and nutrition in disease prevention and treatment.


Program Overview

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to apply to the register of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The program is ranked second in the UK and best in London according to the Guardian University Guide 2024.


Why Study This Course?

This undergraduate degree course teaches students the skills necessary to become a dietitian, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating diet and nutrition-related problems at an individual and wider public health level. Students will learn about the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health, and disease, and will develop the knowledge to provide nutrition and dietetic care for individuals, groups, and populations.

Entry Requirements

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, students should have:


  • A minimum of grades BBB in three A levels, including grade B or above in Biology and Chemistry
  • English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check for the Adults' and Children's Workforce
  • Clearance for non-exposure prone procedures (EPP) by an approved occupational health service

  • Seen/unseen examinations

  • A compulsory final year dissertation

Professional Accreditation

The course is approved by the HCPC, and successfully completing the degree makes students eligible to apply for registration. The course is also accredited by the BDA, and when students have the status "Dietitian" on their HCPC registration, they can join the BDA as a full member.

Graduating from the Dietetics and Nutrition BSc (Hons) course is the start of an exciting and varied career in nutrition, health, and disease management. London Met's health science graduates have gone into various healthcare professions, including acute, community, obesity, and HIV specialist dietitians, health advisers, sports coaches, and PE teachers in organizations such as King's College Hospital, Bupa, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Guys and St Thomas' Hospital, and various other NHS organizations.

Additionally, there may be other activities that are not formally part of the course and not required to complete the course, but which students may find helpful. The costs of these are additional to the tuition fee and the fees set out above and will be notified when the activity is being arranged.


Funding

Students may be eligible for funding of up to 」5,000 per year, which they won't have to pay back, through the NHS Training Grant.
