Founded through a collaboration between the Budapest Film Academy (BFA) and Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), the Academy is a dynamic international center for filmmaking education in Hungary, offering courses in both English and Hungarian.

BFA aims to cultivate a new generation of broad-minded filmmakers—professionals proficient in every phase of film production, equipped for success across both Europe and the United State.. The Academy’s philosophy blends the artistry of cinema with solid business training, covering fundraising, international co-productions, and market strategies—essential tools for launching sustainable film careers .

Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on, comprehensive filmmaking education, where theory comes alive through practical experiences. Students explore the full filmmaking cycle—from script development to production and post-production—under the guidance of industry professionals .

World-Class Faculty & Mentors

BFA’s faculty combines academically trained educators with award-winning industry professionals. Mentors, including founder Jenő Hódi—with deep experience in the U.S.—guide students through both creative and business aspects of filmmaking . The Academy also hosts master classes featuring legends such as Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, Ron Howard, Alan Parker, Joe Eszterhas, and others, often facilitated by the Hungarian National Film Fund.

A Global Academic Link

BFA and ELTE’s partnership allows students to earn ELTE-accredited ECTS credits, which can be transferred to ELTE or other universities across Europe. There’s flexibility for ELTE students, guest students, and even students not currently enrolled in any university—via degree programs or non-credit courses—making BFA accessible to a wide range of aspiring filmmakers
